President Trump proposed a compromise on health insurance payments in a post on TruthSocial on Saturday morning.

Trump called on Republicans to send federal payments to insurance companies directly to Americans under the Affordable Care Act.

This post comes a day after Senate Republicans rejected a proposal by Minority Leader Chuck Schumer that could have potentially ended the government shutdown.

Earlier this week, the shutdown became the longest in US history.

President Donald Trump proposed a compromise on health insurance payments in a post on TruthSocial.

“I am recommending to Senate Republicans that the Hundreds of Billions of Dollars currently being sent to money sucking Insurance Companies in order to save the bad Healthcare provided by ObamaCare, BE SENT DIRECTLY TO THE PEOPLE SO THAT THEY CAN PURCHASE THEIR OWN, MUCH BETTER, HEALTHCARE, and have money left over,” he wrote in a Truth Social post on Saturday, without providing any details.

Trump called on Republicans to send federal payments to insurance companies directly to Americans under the Affordable Care Act to end the government shutdown.

This post comes a day after Senate Republicans rejected a proposal by Democratic Minority Leader Chuck Schumer that would have allowed the US government to reopen after the shutdown that began on October 1, now the longest shutdown in US history.

The plan presented by Democrats on Friday proposed preserving federal ACA subsidies for at least a year, in exchange for dropping their demand for a long-term extension of Obamacare tax credits, which was to be included in a temporary government funding bill.

These subsidies, used by more than 20 million Americans, will expire at the end of December if Congress does not extend them.

Senate Majority Leader John Thune, Republican-S.D., on Friday called the Democrats' proposal "a failure."

The White House did not immediately respond to CNBC's request for comment or specific information on how Trump's proposed direct payment plan would work.

Representatives for Senators Schumer and Thune did not immediately respond to requests for comment. The D.C. offices of House Speaker Mike Johnson, Republican-La., and House Minority Leader Representative Hakeem Jeffries, Democratic-New York, did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Congressional lawmakers are deadlocked, unable to reach a compromise to end the shutdown. Democrats want a funding bill that includes healthcare subsidies that are set to expire for 24 million Americans at the end of the year. Republicans, meanwhile, say Congress should first pass a funding bill without any conditions and allow the government to resume functioning before considering other issues.

In several posts on Saturday, Trump reiterated his demand to end the filibuster. The filibuster is a Senate rule that requires 60 of its 100 members to pass most bills. The Republican Party holds 53 seats in the Senate, along with 45 Democratic senators and two independent senators who serve in coalition with them.

Senate Republicans have opposed changing this rule and earlier this week said they would not support any change. Trump called on his party to exercise the "nuclear option" on this rule.

On Saturday, Trump alleged he was "making progress" with Republicans to change the rule.

“The Democrats are cracking like dogs on the Shutdown because they are deathly afraid that I am making progress with the Republicans on TERMINATING THE FILIBUSTER! Whether we make a Deal or not, THE REPUBLICANS MUST ‘BLOW UP’ THE FILIBUSTER,” he wrote.
