AI Job Shock: Sunak Warns Young Workers at Risk
AI job crisis deepens as Rishi Sunak warns of fewer entry roles. Experts highlight youth employment trends and urgent policy shifts to boost hiring.
Former Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has stated that Artificial Intelligence (AI) is leveling the playing field in the job market for young people, and that governments should abolish National Insurance to make hiring employees more attractive.
Sunak, who now serves as an advisor to the AI firm Anthropic and to Microsoft, said that while he is a strong proponent of the transformative impact of AI, he also acknowledged that the concerns of graduates seeking entry-level positions are valid.

He noted that business leaders have privately admitted to him that, due to this technology, the pace of hiring young people is now slowing down.
"There are reasons to be concerned and to think about the future," he said. "But we can do something about this."
Sunak proposed rebalancing the tax system by gradually phasing out National Insurance and replacing it with a tax on corporate profits.
He argued that the revenue generated from these taxes would also increase, driven by the enhanced productivity and efficiency resulting from the use of AI.

Sunak observed that securing jobs in service sectors—such as law, accountancy, and the creative industries—is becoming increasingly difficult for young people.
At the same time, he noted that chief executives are telling him that "now, 'stability' is the new growth."
