Everything you need to know! The 2025 Tata Sierra
Tata Motors is preparing to revive one of its most iconic nameplates and the excitement is more than justified
The Sierra is set to return in its petrol version on November 25th, followed shortly after by the Sierra EV. Both will enter the compact SUV segment, where competition is fierce and attention spans are short. The brand has attempted to establish itself in this segment with the Curve and Curve EV, but the SUV coupe's shape still divides opinion. The Sierra, on the other hand, relies heavily on familiarity, and this is perhaps its greatest strength.
A Familiar Face, a Modern Face
The all-new Sierra closely resembles the design language of the original model. Its upright stance and clean surfaces are reminiscent of models from the 1990s, while the front end has received a modern update. The petrol version features a large black grille with "Sierra" written on it, above a full-width LED light bar. The headlamps are slanted downward, giving the front end a confident look that feels right in this segment.
In terms of profile, its resemblance to the 2025 Auto Expo concept is clearly visible. The bright yellow color scheme returns, along with flush-fitting door handles and a glasshouse reminiscent of old Alpine-style windows. The only significant visual difference is the new 19-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels, giving the Sierra a production-ready look.
The rear retains a blend of nostalgia with restraint. The glass treatment is reminiscent of the original model and helps this SUV stand out in a market crowded with oversized taillights and eye-catching cutouts.
Inside the Sierra
The first thing you'll notice upon entering is the number of screens. There are three screens, each 12.3 inches. The driver gets a clean digital cluster, while the center unit handles infotainment. The third display is located ahead of the passenger and adds a touch of drama to the cabin.
The dashboard features a layered layout with a leather-style finish. The steering wheel features an illuminated logo, a common feature across all models. Touch-based climate controls have returned, and the gear selector is shared with other models. The rear seat has three adjustable headrests, window blinds, and a center armrest. This makes it perfect for longer family trips rather than short trips in the city.
Key Features
The Sierra will be available with a variety of equipment. A panoramic sunroof, a 360-degree camera, dual-zone climate control, and multiple drive modes are part of this package. Level 2 ADAS will help boost confidence on the highway. Music is provided by a 12-speaker JBL Black sound system, supported by a Sonic soundbar. The front seats are ventilated and powered, while a wireless charger handles your phone. Multi-color ambient lighting ties all the features together at night.
Safety features include at least six airbags, electronic stability control, parking sensors on both sides, and a tire pressure monitoring system.
New Engines for a New Chapter
The Sierra will debut with the company's new 1.5-liter turbo petrol TGDI engine. It produces 170 bhp and 280 Nm of torque. It should be powerful enough for city use and comfortable for a smooth ride on the highway. Diesel engine enthusiasts will find a 1.5-liter engine that produces 118 bhp and 260 Nm. Both engines will be available with a six-speed manual or seven-speed dual-clutch automatic.
An electric version is also coming, but the brand has not yet revealed its specifications. The Sierra EV's platform and battery layout are expected to be similar to other recent models, and it will likely focus on actual range rather than key figures.
Price and Rivals
The Sierra is scheduled for its domestic launch on November 25th, and its price is expected to be between ₹15 lakh and ₹25 lakh. This puts it in competition with some major brands. The upcoming Renault Duster, 2026 Kia Seltos, Nissan Tecton, Hyundai Creta, Skoda Kushaq, Volkswagen Taigun, Maruti Victoire and Grand Vitara, and, of course, the Tata Curve, will all be part of this segment.
This segment values practicality, comfort, and brand trust. The Sierra offers a nostalgic and fresh design that appeals to Indian buyers. It has many reasons to attract attention, but it still needs to perform aggressively in a market where customers rarely forgive mistakes.
A Name That Still Matters
The Sierra's return has sparked a wave of nostalgia among the brand's longtime fans. Many remember the original model as a trendsetter, and the modern version is poised to carry forward that memory. It enters a crowded and competitive segment, but brings a story that no rival can replicate. Interest is already high, and the final question will be how this SUV will perform once deliveries begin.
