Amy Madigan wins Best Supporting Actress at the Oscars for Weapons and delivers an emotional tribute to husband Ed Harris during her heartfelt Oscar speech.
Amy Madigan won the first Oscar of the 2026 ceremony and paid tribute to her husband, Ed Harris, while accepting her award.
The *Field of Dreams* star won the prize for her chilling performance as Aunt Gladys in the horror film *Weapons*.
Amy, who has been with her husband for over 40 years, said: "Most important is my beloved Ed, who has always been by my side—and that is a very long time—and if he weren't with me, none of this would mean anything."
She added: "Thank you; I feel very emotional."
Comedian Conan O'Brien, hosting the ceremony for the second consecutive year, kicked off the show with an extended sketch while dressed as Aunt Gladys; in the skit, children were seen chasing her through scenes from films nominated for 'Best Picture.'

Resembling the film's villainess—complete with heavy white makeup and a red wig—she was seen playing table tennis with Timothée Chalamet in *Marty Supreme*, running across the Globe stage in *Hamnet*, sitting in a car with Benicio del Toro in *One Battle After Another*, and attempting to barge into a juke joint in *Sinners*.
He also alluded to the current global turmoil, remarking: "Last year when I hosted, Los Angeles was on fire. This year, everything is going great."
He also took a jab at a recent comment by Timothée Chalamet, in which the actor suggested that nobody cares about opera and ballet. O'Brien quipped: "I should tell you that security is very tight tonight; I’ve been told there are fears of attacks from both the opera and ballet communities."

O'Brien noted that this is the first time since 2012 that no British performer has been nominated in the main acting categories. He added: "A British spokesperson remarked, 'Well, at least *we* arrest our child sex offenders.'"
O'Brien also acknowledged that these are "days of chaos and fear," stating: "I feel that it is precisely in times like these that the relevance of the Oscars becomes even greater." Referring to the countries and continents represented in these films, he remarked that these nominated movies are "the result of the hard work of thousands of people who speak different languages and labor together to create something truly beautiful."
He further added that these films "embody global artistry, collaboration, patience, resilience, and a very rare quality—optimism."
The box-office smash hit *KPop Demon Hunters* won the award for 'Best Animated Feature'; it was the second award presented that evening.
