This is what Y2K dreams are made of. Earlier this week, Hilary Duff announced that she will release her new song, "Mature," on November 6—her first new music since her last album, 2015's "Breathe In. Breathe Out."

Speaking to host Jake Shane on the final episode of the second season of the Therapeus podcast, Duff discussed her return to the studio and shared some details about her upcoming single. "It was always meant to be. There's no way it wouldn't be a part of my story," Duff said.

The pop star and Disney alumna said that at 38, after 10 years away from music and that point in her life, she's ready to "fill this void, share it with people, and connect with them."

"Obviously, there have been many ups and downs, but I have a unique bond with the fans I've known since I was nine or ten years old, and I just want to reconnect with them," she continued. "We've been through a lot of the same things—whether it's complicated relationships, anxiety, raising children, divorce, trying to find myself in adulthood, family drama... I finally felt safe and comfortable enough in my family to come out and open up that part of myself again."

Elsewhere in the interview, Duff described "Mature" as "talking about your childhood experiences, reflecting on them, being comfortable with them, having some fun moments with yourself, accepting your past, and being happy with where you've come." The singer also said that the music video reflects "the journey of my two selves meeting each other" and includes a "sweet butterfly moment," which has been a big theme in her life since Metamorphosis.

News of her upcoming single comes nearly two months after it was announced that Duff had signed with Atlantic Records and would be featured in a docuseries about her return to music. Directed and executive-produced by Sam Rench ( A Nonsense Christmas with Sabrina Carpenter and Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour ), the project will chronicle the "ups, downs, and everything in between," according to a press release, which claims that "fans will be with her as she balances raising a family, recording new music, live show rehearsals, and preparing to perform on stage for the first time in over a decade."
