Toronto — Toronto Blue Jays fans across the country are heartbroken that their hopes of seeing the team win the World Series for the first time in 32 years were dashed by the Los Angeles Dodgers.

After a tense seventh game in front of a packed house at Rogers Centre, the Dodgers defeated the Blue Jays 5-4 in extra innings on Saturday.

Fans were stunned when the Dodgers' Miguel Rojas hit a game-tying home run in the ninth inning to tie the score at 4-4, and Will Smith's home run in the 11th inning gave Los Angeles the win.

Early in the game, it looked as if Bo Bichette's three-run home run in the third inning would give the Jays the win.

Blue Jays manager John Schneider said, "When you're that close, this loss will hurt for a while."
