Akash Kumar Chaudhary etched his name in the cricket record books by smashing eight consecutive sixes in an Indian domestic match. He scored the fastest first-class half-century ever.
This explosive innings meant that he not only smashed six sixes in a single over, but also surpassed the records of two of cricket's all-time greats by hitting two more sixes off the next two balls.
With this innings, Akash became the first player to hit eight consecutive sixes in first-class cricket, while his record-breaking half-century came in just 11 balls.
This brilliant innings took place on the second day of the Ranji Trophy Plate Group match between Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh in Surat, in the western Indian state of Gujarat.
Batting at number eight with Meghalaya at 576-6, Akash began with a dot and two singles before smashing six consecutive sixes off left-arm spinner Limar Daby.
He thus became only the third player to achieve this feat in an over in a first-class match. Before him, West Indies legend Sir Garfield Sobers achieved this feat in 1968 and former Indian all-rounder Ravi Shastri in 1985.
The 25-year-old then completed his half-century by hitting two consecutive sixes in the next over of off-spinner TNR Mohit.
His 50 came in 11 balls, bettering Wayne White's record of 12 balls, who achieved the feat while playing for Leicestershire against Essex in 2012.
Meghalaya soon declared their innings at 629/8, with Akash scoring an unbeaten 50 off 14 balls.
If that wasn't enough, Akash again performed brilliantly with the ball, leading Meghalaya to a resounding victory.
The fast bowler took 1-10 wickets, as Arunachal Pradesh were bowled out for just 73 runs.
And when Arunachal Pradesh were asked to follow on, he took 2-7 and by the end of the match they were 29-3 – still trailing by 526 runs.
