Jonah Makama scored two goals in the second half as Norwich beat Southampton 2-1 at Carrow Road. In the absence of Josh Sargent, who was sidelined due to concussion protocols, Makama struck in the 48th and 61st minutes to defeat a Saints side that had won five of their previous six matches before the lunchtime kick-off.

Ryan Manning had quickly equalized for the visitors with a superb long-range strike, but summer signing Makama sealed the win with his sixth goal of the season.

The story could have been different had Southampton converted a penalty in the first half, but Vladan Kovacevic made a fine save to deny Adam Armstrong.

Jordan Storey and Daniel Johnson scored a goal in each half to give Preston a 2-1 win at Oxford, their fourth victory in their last eight away Championship games.

Storey headed home from four yards at the far post from a Thierry Small cross following a corner in the 26th minute. The ball appeared to go in off Ciaran Brown's back, but Storey claimed the goal.

Canadian international Johnson then scored his fifth goal of the season four minutes into the second half, converting Alfie Devine's cutback.

Oxford pulled a goal back four minutes later when Brian De Keersmaecker beat a defender on a pass from Nick Preece and fired a powerful left-footed shot into the net, but Preston held on for the win.

Ben Pearson and Sorba Thomas scored as Stoke ended their three-match winless run with a 2-1 home victory against Swansea. Defender Pearson scored a superb goal at the end of the first half, and Thomas added the second just after the hour mark. On Friday night, second-half goals from Ohene Hagebo and Karlan Grant secured a 2-0 home victory for West Brom against in-form Sheffield United. Hagebo broke the deadlock in the 50th minute at The Hawthorns with his seventh goal in seven games, and 11 minutes later, Grant doubled the lead. However, Sheffield United will be ruing their missed opportunities in the first half, having squandered four chances.
