US President Donald Trump has said he "doesn't care" whether Iran participates in this summer's 2026 World Cup.
Trump's comments come amid US and Israeli attacks on Iran, which Iran has responded to by attacking US allies in the Gulf, further escalating the conflict.
The US, along with Canada and Mexico, is co-hosting the World Cup, which takes place between June 11 and July 19.
Regarding Iran's participation in the tournament, Trump told the international media outlet Politico, "I really don't care."

Iran has qualified for its fourth consecutive World Cup and is scheduled to begin its World Cup campaign against New Zealand and Belgium in Los Angeles before its final group game against Egypt in Seattle.
Last summer, when the US bombed three nuclear facilities in the country, the country did not withdraw from the competition.

But given the more serious turmoil, the head of Iran's Football Federation, Mehdi Taj, has reportedly expressed doubts about their participation.
Taj told Iranian television that it was "far from our expectations that we can look forward to the World Cup." He said the country's sports authorities would decide whether any action was necessary.
FIFA General Secretary Mattias Grafstrom said on Saturday: "Our focus is on holding a safe World Cup in which everyone participates."
