A 40-year-old man was arrested following the incident in Nowlan Park

The incident occurred on Sunday, following the Leinster Club Senior Hurling Championship quarter-final match between Offaly's Ballyhale Shamrocks and Kilcormac-Killoughey.

Gardaí confirmed that the man was arrested at the Kilkenny Sports Ground.

In a statement gardai said the man “has since been charged, and is scheduled to appear before the courts at a later date.

“As this is now before the courts, there is no further information available at this time.”

The Garda investigation is ongoing.

Ballyhale Shamrocks manager Henry Shefflin was among those who condemned the scenes that unfolded following his team's victory over Kilcormac-Killoughey.

A Kilcormac-Killoughey supporter tried to punch a Ballyhale Shamrocks player after the full-time whistle, following a tackle on Adrian Mullen.
