According to Beazley Media Group, Philadelphia rock radio icon Pierre Robert has passed away. He was 70 years old.
The media group reported that Robert was found dead inside his home on Wednesday, October 29th. The cause of his death is currently unknown.
Robert had been associated with 93.3 WMMR since 1981 and was the host of the afternoon radio show.
He was known for his distinctive welcome to his show "Hello, Citizens."
Carolyn Beazley, CEO of Beazley Media Group, said in a statement, "We are all deeply saddened today. Pierre's unwavering love for music and his deep connection with listeners made him one of radio's most enduring and beloved voices. He will be greatly missed."
Rock superstar Jon Bon Jovi posted a lengthy tribute to Robert, whom he considered his friend.
Bon Jovi said on social media, "Today we lost a great friend. A man who truly loved music. All kinds of music. A man who loved musicians. Not just the famous or the chart-toppers. He admired local artists and the rising stars of tomorrow."
Bon Jovi said, "This man was as smart as he was curious; he was a true musician. He understood your influences and your influences so well."
"He was the DJ who preached a song to everyone who listened," he added. "This man was also deeply connected to his humanity. His voice helped the hungry and the homeless, and he did it because he cared."
Bon Jovi added, "We were all fortunate to have him as a guide in his musical world, and I was also fortunate to have him as a friend."
Robert was known for interviewing many prominent rock stars. During Bryan Adams' concert at the Xfinity Mobile Arena on Wednesday night, the singer dedicated his song "Heaven" to Robert, according to NBC Sports Philadelphia's John Clark, who was at the concert.
Adams said he was scheduled for a 15-minute Zoom interview with Robert on Wednesday, but Robert didn't show up.
Robert was inducted into the Philadelphia Music Alliance in 2019..
