The store welcomed its first customers at 9am on Thursday November 13, marking a significant addition to the new Wynyard Retail Park near Coal Lane in Stockton-on-Tees. The new 29,000 square feet supermarket will open from 7am to 10pm Monday to Saturday, and from 10am to 4pm on Sundays.

The Sainsbury's also features a brand-new Argos branch inside, giving customers access to thousands of products, including Habitat and Tu Clothing ranges, with fast Click & Collect available. The existing Argos in Billingham's Queensway Shopping Centre will continue to operate alongside the new site.

The first wave of stores has now opened at the new Wynyard Retail and Trade Park. The supermarket joins other retailers already trading at the park, including Starbucks, Screwfix, and JT Dove, while Howdens is preparing to open later this month.

Wynyard Retail Park forms part of the wider Wynyard Business Park development, which supports the Tees Valley Strategic Economic Plan aimed at driving job creation and local investment.

The new supermarket will work closely with Sainsbury's community programmes, including the retailer’s Nourish the Nation campaign with Comic Relief, which helps improve access to nutritious food and supports families facing food insecurity.

Peter Conwell, Sainsbury's Wynyard Store Manager, said: "I’m delighted to be leading the fantastic new team at our Wynyard supermarket, where we will join Sainsbury’s mission to make good food joyful, accessible and affordable for everyone, every day.

"We’re currently working hard to get everything ready for opening day, and after that, we’re really looking forward to playing an integral part in the local community for years to come."

The supermarket includes around 300 customer parking spaces, with dedicated Blue Badge and parent and child bays.

Patrick Dunne, Sainsbury's Chief Property and Procurement Officer, Managing Director of Smart Charge, also said: "We’re on a mission to ensure that great food is within reach for everyone, everywhere.

"This year, through our largest investment in store expansion in over a decade, we’re bringing more choice, convenience and quality to more communities across the UK.

"We’re very excited to be opening our newest Sainsbury’s supermarket yet in Wynyard in time for Christmas and we’re now putting the finishing touches on it – we can’t wait to welcome everyone in-store on Thursday."
