Catcher Will Smith's home run in the top of the 11th inning broke the deadlock at Toronto's Rogers Centre, and a wild celebration erupted when Alejandro Kirk grounded into a double play at third base, scoring the equalizing run.

The National League champions trailed 3-0 on Bo Bichette's three-run homer in the third inning, but they continued to score, and solo homers by Max Muncy and Miguel Rojas tied the game 4-4 in the top of the ninth inning.

The last team to win consecutive Fall Classics was the New York Yankees, who won in 1998, 1999, and 2000.

The series was played against the backdrop of political and trade battles between North America's neighboring countries since Donald Trump's re-election as US President, but ultimately, the big-spending Dodgers prevailed against Canada's only Major League Baseball (MLB) franchise.

MLB's most high-profile player, Japanese superstar Shohei Ohtani, started the innings for the Dodgers but ran into trouble in the third inning.

George Springer opened with a base hit, bunted to second base, and reached third base on a wild pitch. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. was intentionally walked, and Bichette launched the ball over center field, eliciting cheers from the crowd.

This marked the end of Ohtani's night as a pitcher, but under a 2022 regulation change known as the 'Ohtani Rule,' he was allowed to remain in the game as the designated hitter.

The Dodgers struck back in the fourth inning, putting Teoscar Hernandez on base and sending Smith home on a sacrifice fly to make it 3-1, but Guerrero's spectacular diving catch at first base prevented further damage.

Tensions threatened to escalate when Dodgers reliever Justin Wroblewski hit a pitch to Andres Jimenez, and both benches emptied as players rushed onto the field to confront each other.
