According to Irish broadcaster RTE, a total of five people were rescued from the upper floors of the building, and several others were taken to hospital for medical examination. Four children were among those rescued.

Gardai have launched an investigation into an alleged attempted arson at the property.

A man in his 20s was arrested on Wednesday night, and another man in his 20s was arrested on Thursday morning. Both have been charged on suspicion of offences under the Criminal Damage Act 1991.

Gardai said on Saturday that the investigation indicated the fire was "deliberately started by an unknown person or persons."

A spokesperson said, "This was an extremely dangerous incident that endangered the lives of residents, including children who were in their homes at the time."

“The occupants of the property were evacuated safely and a number of people were taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital for medical check-ups.”
