Good evening. We begin with breaking news from Rhode Island, where multiple people were shot near Brown University, prompting an active shooter alert and a large police response during the school’s final exam period.

Police say several people were shot in the area surrounding Brown University on Saturday, as the Ivy League campus issued an active shooter alert and urged students and staff to immediately take shelter.

The shooting occurred during the second day of final exams for the fall semester, heightening fear and confusion across campus. Authorities have not yet released details on the number of victims, their conditions, or the circumstances leading up to the gunfire.

University officials initially told students and staff through Brown’s emergency notification system that a suspect was in custody. However, that information was later corrected, with officials confirming that no suspect had been apprehended and that police were actively searching for one or more suspects.

Law enforcement quickly flooded the area. Officers carrying assault weapons were seen surrounding the engineering school, while emergency vehicles blocked off multiple streets nearby. A police officer on the scene warned members of the media to take cover inside their vehicles, emphasizing that the situation remained active and potentially dangerous.

City officials said information was still developing.
“We’re continuing to gather details as the investigation unfolds,” said Kristy DosReis, chief public information officer for the city.

President Donald Trump said late Saturday afternoon that he had been briefed on the incident. In a statement posted to his social media platform, he wrote, “God bless the victims and the families of the victims.”

Brown University is a private, non-profit Ivy League institution with approximately 7,300 undergraduate students and just over 3,000 graduate students. Campus officials have not yet announced whether exams or classes will be postponed.

This remains a developing story. Authorities are urging anyone with information to contact police, while students and staff are advised to continue following emergency alerts. We will bring you updates as more information becomes available.
