A serious safety alert has been issued for tumble dryers manufactured by Haier, after regulators warned that an internal short circuit could cause the machines to catch fire during normal use.
The affected products span multiple household brands, including Baumatic, Candy, Caple, Haier, Hoover, Iberna, Lamona, and Montpellier.
Owners are being advised to stop using their dryers immediately, unplug them if the plug is easy to access, and check their model and serial number online to confirm whether their appliance is at risk.
Earlier this year, Haier launched a corrective repair program covering more than 103,000 machines. But the Office for Product Safety and Standards ordered the company to pause the program after concerns that the original modification was still unsafe.
Haier has now developed an updated repair and restarted work—beginning with machines that had already received the earlier fix, and now expanding outreach to roughly 85,000 remaining owners whose dryers may still pose a fire hazard.
The OPSS says it continues to monitor the situation closely, while urging the public to act quickly and contact Haier for a free repair if their appliance is affected.
Consumers can check their model number on Haier’s dedicated safety website. Officials warn: do not use the machine until the repair is completed.
