The Big Tribute Festival confirmed these cases after 5,000 people attended the event, which took place between Aberystwyth and Capel Bangor.

Public Health Wales (PHW) said the outbreak, which could have been declared with just two cases, had ended in October, with no evidence of further spread and no risk to the public. It said it was continuing to investigate the source of the infection.

The Big Tribute Festival said it had met all environmental health requirements, including water testing and animal removal under council supervision, before the event.

PHW said it had contacted people who purchased tickets to the festival to complete a survey.
It also said a report on the outbreak would be published in due course.

What is E. coli?
According to PHW, O26 Shiga toxin-producing E. coli (STEC) is a bacterial infection that can cause serious complications. It's often spread through eating spoiled food, but it can also be transmitted through contact with an infected person, as well as through direct contact with an infected animal or its surroundings.

What are the symptoms of E. coli?
  • Violent and sometimes bloody diarrhea
  • Abdominal cramps, vomiting, and fever
Symptoms usually take a few days to appear after infection.

E. coli is a diverse group of bacteria that normally live in the intestines of humans and animals.

Big Tribute Festival said it would continue to fully support PHW in their work, adding: “The festival met all environmental health requirements, including water testing by the council prior to the event, removing animals more than 30 days before the festival and ensuring all food vendors adhered to the required legal standards to operate.”
