Australian actress Rachael Carpani, who starred in McLeod's Daughters, has tragically passed away at the age of 45. Her sister, Georgia, confirmed the sad news in a statement released on behalf of Rachael's parents, Tony and Gail.
The statement revealed that the actress died "suddenly but peacefully" on December 7 after a "long battle" with a chronic illness. Tony and Gail said their daughter's funeral would be held this week.
They said, "The funeral will be a private service... attended by close family and friends. The family requests privacy during this very difficult time and will not be making any further statements."
Rachael played the character of Jodi Fountain in McLeod's Daughters, the youngest daughter of Jack McLeod.
Her on-screen sisters were played by Lisa Chappell and Bridie Carter, who also paid tribute to their friend.
Bridie said on Instagram, "This is the hardest post."
"With love and respect, for our beautiful Rach, in prayer and with deepest sorrow and heartfelt condolences to the Carpani family.
"Rest in peace our beautiful girl.... our MD family's 'baby'.... we love you, we will cherish you..... this is the wrong order of things. We are better people for having had the privilege of spending time with you." We know that Rach will be deeply missed not only by her family, but by all of us, and by all of you around the world who loved and admired her."
They also praised Rachel's "blessed soul," her "unique talent," and her "gentle humility."
In addition to starring in the iconic Channel 9 program, Rachel also had several smaller roles in the film Hating Alison Ashley, as well as in All Saints, Home and Away, and other TV shows.
In 2007, she was nominated for two Logie Awards for her role as Jodi Fountain: the Gold Logie and Most Popular Actress.
News of her sudden death left her fans in shock.
One person wrote, "This is so sad. One of my favorite characters in McLeod's Daughters x Rest in peace."
"So sad to read this. My heart is broken. I've had long conversations with Rach over the years about endometriosis. She would often call me to check in on me and held my hand during my father's death. She was such a caring and lovely person. I can't believe this. I'm so sad," another said.
"I didn't even know she was sick. I loved her acting and who she was," a third commented.
Rachel was hospitalized in 2021 for surgery for "severe abdominal pain."
At the time, she said it was a "case of not listening to my body," which resulted in her becoming "quite unwell."
She spent several days in the ICU and surgical ward before being discharged.
