Russia has welcomed Donald Trump's new US National Security Strategy, calling it "largely consistent" with Moscow's vision.
The 33-page document released by the US administration last week states that Europe is facing "civilizational erasure" and does not identify Russia as a threat to the US.

The report lists combating foreign influence, eliminating mass migration, and rejecting the EU's stated value of "censorship" as secondary priorities.
Many EU officials and analysts had opposed the strategy, questioning its focus on freedom of speech and comparing it to the language used by the Kremlin.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said in an interview published by Russia's state news agency TASS on Sunday, "The adjustments we are seeing... are largely in line with our vision."
He said, "We consider this a positive step," and added that Moscow will continue to analyze the document before drawing any firm conclusions.

The strategy adopts softer language toward Russia, which EU officials worry could weaken Moscow's response to the conflict.
The document accuses the EU of blocking US efforts to end the conflict and states that the US should "rebuild strategic stability for Russia," which will "stabilize European economies."

It appears to support attempts to influence policy on the continent, noting that US policy should prioritize "opposing Europe's current path within European countries."
The new report also calls for the restoration of "Western identity," claiming that Europe "will be unrecognizable in 20 years or less" and that its economic issues will be "overshadowed by the real and increasingly clear prospect of the end of civilization."

The document states, "It is unclear whether the economies and militaries of some European countries will be strong enough to remain reliable allies." Conversely, the document celebrates the influence of "patriotic European parties" and calls for "the United States to encourage its political allies in Europe to rekindle this spirit."
As the EU negotiates with the Trump administration for a peace deal in Ukraine, some officials emphasized its long-standing relationship with the US, while also raising "questions" about the document.

German Foreign Minister Wadephul said on Friday, "The US will remain our most important partner in the [NATO] Alliance. However, the Alliance is focusing on resolving security policy issues."
He added, "I believe that questions of freedom of speech or the organization of our free societies should not come up [in the strategy], at least not when it comes to Germany."

But the European Council on Foreign Relations, a think tank, claimed the document "positions itself too far to the right of the right wing."

ECFR co-chair and former Swedish Prime Minister Carl Bildt wrote on social media, "This is language that otherwise only comes from some strange mind in the Kremlin."
The US is moving closer to the far-right AfD party in Germany, which German intelligence has identified as far-right.

Promoting an "America First" message, the strategy states that the US intends to target alleged drug-trafficking boats in the Caribbean Sea and the Eastern Pacific Ocean, and to consider potential military action in Venezuela.
The US also urges Japan, South Korea, Australia, and Taiwan to increase defense spending.

Democrats in Congress warned that the document could damage US foreign relations.
Representative Jason Crow of Colorado, who sits on the House committees overseeing Intelligence and the Armed Forces, called the strategy "dangerous to America's standing in the world."
Representative Gregory Meeks of New York said it "undermines decades of values-based, US leadership."
