LOS ANGELES — Rob Reiner and his wife have been found stabbed to death in their Brentwood home, sending shockwaves through Hollywood.
According to police and sources, officers were called to the home Sunday afternoon, where they found a man and a woman with stab wounds.
The Los Angeles Fire Department told NBC Los Angeles that the bodies of a 78-year-old man and a 68-year-old woman were found inside the home.
These ages match those of Reiner and his wife, Michelle, and sources told The Post that the bodies belonged to the longtime couple, who married in 1989.
LAFD paramedics arrived at the home around 3:30 p.m. Shortly after, LAPD officers arrived at the home following a report of an “ambulance death investigation,” the outlet reported.
A department spokesperson said detectives from the LAPD’s Robbery-Homicide Division were also on the scene. Sources said a knife was used in the attack.
Authorities had cordoned off the street in front of Reiner’s home, and detectives could be seen going in and out of the house.
Post reporters at the scene observed that Reiner’s home was decorated with holiday decorations. It is located in a posh, high-end Brentwood neighborhood where homes are protected by large hedges and gates.
The LAPD’s RHD is the unit that handles high-profile investigations throughout the city.
Reiner has two sons , Jake and Nick. Nick has previously spoken openly about his struggles with drug addiction and homelessness. “I was homeless in Maine. I was homeless in New Jersey. I was homeless in Texas. I spent nights on the streets. I spent weeks on the streets. It wasn’t fun at all,” he told People in a 2016 interview. Reiner and Michelle married in 1989; The director was previously married to actress Penny Marshall from 1971 to 1981.
Reiner, 78, is known for directing several classic hit films of the 1980s and '90s, including "When Harry Met Sally," "The Princess Bride," "Spinal Tap," and "A Few Good Men." He first gained recognition for his role as Michael "Meathead" Stivic in the CBS sitcom "All in the Family," for which he won two Emmy Awards.
