Arne Slot started the week by saying he no longer enjoys watching most Premier League games.

The Liverpool boss must have changed his mind after his team's 2-1 loss to bottom-placed Wolves.

When Rob Edwards ran onto the touchline in a Jose Mourinho-esque manner to celebrate Andre's 94th-minute winner, Liverpool felt very different. The empty away end at Molineux before the final whistle said it all.

Once again this season, just when Liverpool seemed to be on the move, they suffered a crushing defeat.

Liverpool still has nine league games remaining, and the prospect of being eliminated from next season's Champions League is a real concern.

The financial impact of this cannot be underestimated. Slot will know his team simply cannot afford to miss this.

On Tuesday, Liverpool failed to create many chances and were punished defensively. And then, they conceded the winner in injury-time.
For Slott, concerns are growing, even though he tried to defend his team by saying Wolves had found form.

"My expectations have changed throughout the season because I expected more from us and what we're fighting for now. But this is another setback, and we didn't help ourselves with this result, not at all.

"It's a worry [to lose points] because it's not the first time we've lost points against teams that are in this position.

"But we're not the first team to lose points here; last week it was [Aston] Villa, the week before that it was Arsenal. So they're maintaining good momentum."

For a team known for scoring late goals, it's been a different story for Liverpool this season.

They've lost five Premier League games to injury-time goals – the most by any team in a single campaign.

"I think it's down to us," said captain Virgil van Dijk after the game. "It was slow, we were predictable, we were sloppy in possession and made some bad decisions. We didn't miss any chances, but if you perform like that, a result like this can happen, and that's a fact. It was disappointing."

"Whenever you beat them, you have to enjoy the moment."
Molineux has seen as many Premier League victories in the last five days as it has in the last 10 months. But in its history, it hasn't seen a more dramatic victory.

Make no mistake, Wolves deserved the three points here. Drawn 1-1, they pushed for victory and were rewarded, albeit with a bit of luck from a Joe Gomez deflection.

"This is Liverpool Football Club - no matter what position you're in, whenever you beat them, you have to enjoy the moment," Edwards said. "They're a fantastic football club, they have a fantastic manager and a lot of great players. So it was a massive night for us."

The Wolves head coach later joked that he had been injured while running to the touchline after his team's late winning goal.

He added, "All we're trying to do is get better." "We're trying to build some momentum. We know where we're at. I know I lost myself in that moment. People might think we're at the bottom of the league, but you should have seen the energy around this place. You should enjoy it. We're trying to turn things around.

"There's a belief that we're going in the right direction. No matter what happens until the end of that 38th game, we'll just keep fighting."
With wins against Aston Villa and Liverpool in their last two Premier League games, Wolves are the first bottom-placed team to beat two top-five teams in the same season since West Brom in 2017-18, and the first to do so in consecutive matches.

While Liverpool fight for Champions League football, Wolves are fighting the impossible and are 11 points from safety with eight games remaining.

This result will hopefully have no impact on their Premier League future, but Rodrigo Gomes, scorer of their first goal on Tuesday, is remaining confident.

"We know we're in a difficult situation," he said. "It's very difficult, but we have to keep believing. If it's possible, we have to keep believing."

"Now we have to work game by game and not think, 'If we win this game or that game, we'll avoid relegation.' By working like this game by game, week by week, maybe we'll see."

A Wolves fan leaving Molineux told Sport: "It's strange where we are in the table."
For a team and fanbase that have endured so much this season, it was a night they won't soon forget.

And they'll get a chance to do it all again when Liverpool return to action in the FA Cup on Friday.
