Three people died after being swept out to sea off the Tenerife coast due to bad weather, officials said on Sunday.

Strong waves swept them into the Atlantic Ocean during Saturday's high tide.

According to Spanish media, a man who fell into the water at Charco del Viento, a rocky scenic spot not far from Icod de los Vinos in the north of the island, was airlifted to a hospital and was pronounced dead upon arrival.

In a separate incident, a man was found floating on Cabezo Beach in El Medano, in the south of the island.

Lifeguards and paramedics were unable to revive him, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

A woman suffered a heart attack and died after a wave swept several people out to sea in Puerto de la Cruz, northern Tenerife. Three people were seriously injured and taken to hospital for treatment.

According to El Dia, the victim was a 79-year-old Dutch woman.

The Spanish newspaper reported that the deceased in Charco del Viento was a 43-year-old man from La Orotava, a town in northern Tenerife, while the identity of the man who died at Cabezo beach has not yet been revealed.

According to emergency services, about 15 people were injured in four separate incidents on the coast of the island of Tenerife on Saturday.

Authorities had warned people of high tides and strong winds and advised them to avoid walking on coastal paths and risking themselves by taking photos and videos of rough seas.

The Canary Islands, a Spanish archipelago off the west coast of Africa, which includes Tenerife, is on alert for coastal hazards, officials said.
