WASHINGTON - If the U.S. Supreme Court rules against President Donald Trump's tariffs, some plaintiffs could receive refunds under certain circumstances, but the Treasury Department would have to figure out any payment schedule, the country's top trade official said on Thursday.
"In some circumstances, plaintiffs, certain plaintiffs, will get refunds," U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer said on Fox Business Network's "Mornings with Maria" program, a day after the Supreme Court heard arguments in a major case challenging Trump's unprecedented use of a national emergency law to impose costs on imported goods.
"We'll probably have to work with the court to figure out what kind of schedule that might be, and what the rights of these parties are, and what the government's rights are to that money," he said, referring to the U.S. Treasury Department.
