A US official told on Tuesday that the Ukrainian government has agreed to a "peace deal" brokered by the Trump administration to halt Russia's nearly four-year offensive. The US official and Ukraine's National Security Advisor, Rustam Umarov, said a consensus has been reached on a proposal, but some details remain to be worked out.

Umerov expressed hope that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky could visit Washington before the end of November to finalize a deal.On Sunday that U.S. and Ukrainian officials had already discussed the possibility of Zelensky's visit to the U.S. this week.

"Ukraine has agreed to a peace deal," ."Some minor details remain to be resolved, but they have agreed to a peace deal."

This news comes as the U.S. Army Secretary Dan Driscoll was in Abu Dhabi to meet with Russian officials, two U.S. officials and two diplomatic sources, who were not authorized to speak publicly. A fifth source familiar with the talks also confirmed Driscoll's presence in the United Arab Emirates capital.

There was no immediate comment from Russia, the invading army, on what was decided in Abu Dhabi, and no details were provided by U.S. or Ukrainian officials about the latest proposal. Umarov said on Tuesday that Ukraine had agreed to the "main terms" of the peace proposal during ongoing talks in Abu Dhabi, which include U.S., Ukrainian, and Russian officials, although not all simultaneously.

Speaking earlier on Tuesday, veteran Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov told reporters that Russia "appreciates the U.S. for its proactive position in resolving the conflict in Ukraine," adding that Moscow "works professionally, does not leak information before a formal agreement is reached... Russia hopes that the U.S. will soon inform it about the results of its negotiations with Ukraine and Europe."

Umerov said in a social media post on Tuesday that the country's negotiators had reached "a consensus on the main terms" of the agreement reached between U.S., European, and Ukrainian officials in Geneva over the weekend.

Umerov said, "We now rely on the support of our European partners in our further steps. We are waiting for the Ukrainian president to organize a visit to the U.S. at the most suitable date in November to complete the final steps and reach a deal with President Trump."

A U.S. President in Abu Dhabi A military official told CBS News that Driscoll held hours of talks with Russian representatives on Tuesday, going back and forth to meetings throughout the day.

"We remain very hopeful," the official said. "Secretary Driscoll is hopeful. Hopefully, we'll get feedback from the Russians soon. It's moving quickly."

It's unclear who else is part of the U.S. delegation in Abu Dhabi. A U.S. official told on Tuesday that a Ukrainian delegation was also there and in contact with Driscoll and his team.

The apparent progress in Abu Dhabi comes amid President Trump's intensified efforts to secure a ceasefire in the nearly four-year-long Russia-Ukraine war.

Over the weekend, Driscoll, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Mr. Trump's envoy Steve Witkoff, the president's son-in-law Jared Kushner, and diplomats from Ukraine and European allies participated in talks in Geneva, Switzerland. Driscoll's meeting with Russian officials also follows a visit to the Ukrainian capital last week.
Last week, obtained a draft of a proposal supported by the Trump administration to end the war. The proposed plan included several provisions that Zelensky had previously rejected, such as Ukraine relinquishing its entire Donetsk region – including parts occupied by Russia – and halting the country's efforts to join NATO.

According to U.S. and Ukrainian officials, a document containing security guarantees is also included. Ukraine's U.S. Ambassador Olga Stefanishina told "Face the Nation with Margaret Brennan" on Sunday that the document states that the U.S. intends to provide "security assurances," which she said is in accordance with Article 5 of the NATO Treaty, which commits members to the defense of a NATO country that is attacked.

On Saturday, a group of NATO members and other U.S. allies issued a joint statement, calling the proposed peace plan "a foundation that will require further work."

The White House said in a statement Sunday night that U.S. and Ukrainian officials had "drafted an updated and improved peace framework" following talks in Geneva. Rubio described the Geneva session as "very meaningful," but added that "there remains some work to be done, and our teams will do that."
The White House said in a statement Sunday night that U.S. and Ukrainian officials had developed "an updated and improved peace framework" following talks in Geneva. Rubio described the Geneva session as "very meaningful," but added that "there's still some work to be done, and our teams are currently working on that."

Mr. Trump has pressured Zelensky to reach a deal by Thanksgiving, though Rubio described that deadline as flexible on Sunday.

A U.S. official told Russian President Vladimir Putin that it appears he will take Ukraine's Donetsk region one way or another—either through a negotiated settlement or on the battlefield. The Trump administration's talks in Geneva began with the belief that Putin was correct.

Although the same U.S. official declined to say whether Ukraine was losing the battle in the east, the U.S. official said the trajectory of the fighting pointed toward Russia seizing Donetsk. The official said Russia's advance in the eastern frontline city of Pokrovsk, a logistics hub for Ukraine, does not bode well for Kyiv's defensive prospects. Russian media often calls Pokrovsk the "gateway" to Ukraine's industrial Donbas region.
