Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko gifted a rifle to North Korean leader Kim Jong Un while signing a friendship treaty in Pyongyang. This information was reported by state media.
The two leaders, who are key supporters of Russia's war in Ukraine, agreed to cooperate even more closely with one another and to jointly withstand pressure from the West.
According to a video released by Belarusian state media, Lukashenko jokingly told Kim that he had brought him an automatic rifle, "so that it might come in handy should the enemy ever appear."
In response, Kim presented Lukashenko with a sword and a bouquet featuring a portrait of the Belarusian leader.
According to the Belarusian news agency Belta, Lukashenko told Kim, "As a friend—and as a man who has seen it all in this world—I can tell you that your country's future is very bright, because the people here are very hardworking and disciplined."

He further stated that at a time when "the norms of international law are being openly disregarded and violated by powerful nations," countries need to cooperate with one another "to defend their sovereignty and improve the well-being of their citizens."
According to Belta's report, Lukashenko described the friendship treaty as being of immense importance, while Kim stated that it would "further ensure the stable development of relations between the two countries."
According to a report by the KCNA, the two leaders also agreed to cooperate with one another in various sectors, ranging from agriculture to information technology and public health.
