An Italian sports car, dubbed a "masterpiece," has beaten popular brands like BMW and Land Rover to win the prestigious 2025 Motoring Award. Ferrari's 12Cilindri won first place earlier this year in the prestigious Car Design Award Production category, a prestigious award in the automotive design field.

The Car Design Awards were established in 1984 and are awarded to projects deemed to have made a significant contribution to the development of automotive design. The 12Cilindri is a striking car inspired by the Italian brand's grand tourers of the 1950s and 1960s. The jury said the 12Cilindri was chosen as the winner because the model was already a "unique" icon.

The jury said the 12Cilindri was chosen as the winner because the model was already a "unique" icon.

He explained: "The 12Cilindri's design captures the historical essence of Ferrari V12s from the fifties and sixties, redesigned to take into account aerodynamic requirements that are now a science, not just intuition."

Along with looking like a fashion icon of the future, Maranello's latest GT certainly makes a powerful impression behind the hood. The 12Cilindri features an 819bhp V12 engine that can accelerate from 0-62mph in just 2.9 seconds.

Drivers who want to really push the limits can reach 124mph in just 7.9 seconds, and this model can reach a top speed of 211mph. Those fortunate enough to drive or see the car up close have praised the new car.

The 2025 awards ceremony took place today at the ADI Design Museum in Milan, during Milan Design Week earlier this spring. Production cars Five Ferraris have received awards in the category. Over the past 40 years, 12 Civics have joined the list.

The Testarossa won the award in 1985, followed by the Ferrari Roma in 2020, the 296 GTB in 2022, and the Ferrari Purosangue in 2023.

Land Rover won the Car Design Awards Production category in 2021, with judges praising the Defender 90. Meanwhile, BMW won first prize in the Concept Car Design category for its Vision New Class project in 2024.
