Wilson, 29, totaled 46 tackles, four passes defensed and one fumble recovery in eight games this season for the Cowboys. The six-year veteran recorded at least 100 tackles in every season between 2021 and 2024. Wilson also totaled 5.5 sacks and 19 tackles for a loss in his first 76 career games.
The player, who was selected in the third round of the 2020 NFL Draft by the Bengals, requested a trade last month. He signed a four-year, $36 million extension with the Bengals in 2023 and is under contract through 2027.
Wilson started 65 games in his first six seasons, but was benched in Week 6 and has seen limited playing time this year. Pro Football Focus ranked Wilson as the 40th-best defensive rating among linebackers who played at least 50% of the maximum snaps at that position through Week 9 of 2025.
He was ranked No. 12 among qualifying linebackers last season.
The Bengals, who have allowed the most points and yards in the NFL this season, now have eight picks in the 2026 NFL Draft, including two in the sixth round and two in the seventh round. The Cowboys, who have given up the second-most yards and points this season, also have eight picks, including two fifth-round and two seventh-round selections.
Cowboys' Jerry Jones announces exciting trade, hints at more to come
A day before the NFL trade deadline, Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones made it clear that he's already been busy in the trade market. He also hinted that more is to come.
During a live episode of the Stephen A. Smith Show, Jones spoke with both Smith and Michael Irvin. Clarence Hill of DFW Sports shared two videos of Jones talking about the upcoming deadline, captioning them, "Jerry Jones says he's made one trade and is working on two more trades for the Cowboys."
While the audio isn't great, Jones can be heard saying, "There's a lot going on right now in terms of trading. We've certainly made one trade and we'll make some more trades before that deadline."
As of Monday afternoon, the most recent trade the Cowboys had made was when they traded Micah Parsons to the Green Bay Packers shortly before the regular season began. It's possible Jones was referring to that already completed trade. It's also possible a deal has been made but not yet announced, especially since the Cowboys are playing Monday Night Football in Week 9.
Heading into their Monday night matchup against the Arizona Cardinals, Dallas is 3-4-1 and sits at the No. 11 seed in the NFC, well outside the playoff picture. Furthermore, nine teams in the NFC have at least five wins. This includes the Cowboys' division rivals, the Philadelphia Eagles, who are 6-2 and currently hold the number one seed not only in the NFC East but in the entire conference.
If the Cowboys are to make the playoffs or become a serious contender this season, they will likely need to make some improvements to their roster by Tuesday's deadline. Of course, the more important question is, if Jones does make a deal, will it be the right one for the Cowboys?
