According to a report from plpl Sports insider Jonathan Jones, the Miami Dolphins have traded edge rusher Jalen Phillips to the Philadelphia Eagles for a 2026 third-round NFL Draft pick. Phillips is a pending free agent, and the move from Miami comes three days after the franchise parted ways with general manager Chris Grier.
Phillips has 25 tackles and three sacks in nine games for Miami. He played only four games last season due to an ACL tear. Phillips had 22 sacks in his first 2.5 seasons with the Dolphins before suffering an Achilles injury against the Jets in November 2023. He returned to play in those four games last season but missed the rest of the year due to the ACL tear.
After winning the Super Bowl last season, Philadelphia lagged in the pass-rush department with 16 sacks, which ranked 24th in the NFL. Recently retired edge rusher Za'Darius Smith's 1.5 sacks are the fourth-most on the team and he last played for the Eagles in Week 6.
General Manager Howie Roseman has decided to look for proven talent in the edge rush, and Phillips fills a need for the Eagles. Roseman said in October that the Eagles place improving their team at the top of his franchise's priorities.
"I'm not sitting here and satisfied with my work, no matter what year it is, no matter what time of year it is," Roseman said. "I'm the first to admit we'll make some mistakes. But I promise you we'll keep shooting. We'll do our best to build the best team we can."
The Eagles (6-2) lead the NFC East and will play the Packers at Lambeau Field next Monday night, then host the Lions in back-to-back prime-time contests.
This is the Eagles' third trade in the past week, having previously acquired cornerbacks Jaire Alexander and Michael Carter.
