For the second day in a row, school bus disruptions are widespread across the region.
English school buses are not operating across the Student Transportation of Eastern Ontario, in Renfrew County’s Madawaska area, and in areas north of Kingston and Belleville. Officials say the cancellations are due to unsafe road conditions, with many routes still covered in packed snow.
Meanwhile, French bus service continues to face significant shutdowns as well. Buses under the Consortium de transport solaria de lets, or CTSE, are not running once again today. And the CTSO, the Ottawa-based French school transportation network, has suspended service to Brockville, Carleton Place, Almonte, Prescott-Russell, Marionville, Morrisville, and Kempsville.
Despite the cancellations, buses are running as normal in other areas, including Ottawa and the rest of Renfrew County, where road conditions have improved.
Schools across the region remain open, even when buses are not running, though families are encouraged to check with individual schools or boards for specific instructions.
Snowfall warnings across the region have now ended as of Thursday morning, following a snowy midweek system that left behind a significant amount of accumulation.
According to Ottawa International Airport, nearly 14 centimetres of snow fell between late Tuesday and midnight Thursday, creating challenging conditions for both drivers and plod crews.
Parents and students are advised to check transportation websites and local school boards for the latest updates. We'll continue to monitor conditions across eastern Ontario throughout the day.
