The 20-year-old footballer was targeted in London on September 6.
The incident has been described as a "terrifying" experience for the player, who has not been legally identified.
Another man has also been charged with blackmail and threats during the same incident.
No injuries were reported in either incident.
Police were called at 23:14 BST after reports of a man being threatened with a gun.
The 31-year-old accused was arrested on September 8 on suspicion of intentional possession of a weapon, blackmail, and driving without a license.
He has been granted bail while inquiries continue.
The Metropolitan Police are investigating the incident.
