If your Defender Octa feels a little lonely, Land Rover now has a bespoke solution that combines indulgence, nostalgia, and craftsmanship. The company’s Classic division has announced it will build fully restored Classic Defender V8 models designed to match the Defender Octa in both paint and interior trim.
The biggest update is colour. For the first time, the Classic Defender can now be ordered in exclusive Octa shades such as Petra Copper, Faroe Green, and Sargasso Blue—colours previously reserved for Land Rover’s 626-horsepower flagship. These modern finishes are now paired with a body style that traces its roots back to rugged, wartime farm vehicles.
Inside, the customization continues. Buyers can specify the same materials used in the Defender Octa, including the leather-free Ultrafabrics interior, making its debut in a Classic Defender V8. The result is a cabin that blends contemporary sustainability with vintage character.
Unlike the Octa, which is only offered in a five-door 110 configuration, the Classic Defender V8 gives buyers more choice. Options include a 90 or 110 Station Wagon, as well as a 90 Soft Top. Design touches such as a gloss black grille and carbon bonnet script can be added to closely mirror the modern Octa’s appearance.
Under the bonnet, this is a full factory restoration. Land Rover sources late-model Defenders built between 2012 and 2016, removes the original diesel engine, and installs a naturally aspirated 5.0-litre V8. The engine produces 399 brake horsepower—well below the Octa’s 626 horsepower twin-turbo V8, but more than enough to deliver a powerful and engaging driving experience.
To ensure modern drivability, the Classic Defender V8 is fitted with bespoke suspension and upgraded brakes, significantly improving ride quality and handling over the original model.
The end result is a rare blend of heritage design and modern engineering—an old-school Defender with a thoroughly contemporary feel, built for enthusiasts who value craftsmanship as much as performance.
While owning a Defender Octa isn’t required, pairing the two would certainly create one of the most striking driveways in the world.
