Trump described Berger as a “patriot” and praised his representation of North Carolina’s 26th Senate District. Berger has served as the leader of the North Carolina Senate for more than a decade, overseeing a number of policy initiatives during his time in the position.

In the statement, Trump credited Berger with contributing to what he characterized as significant Republican victories in the state over recent years, including past election cycles in which Trump won North Carolina.
