Person of interest questioned in building superintendent's death

A well-liked 41-year-old building superintendent died following a fight with a man possibly attempting to steal packages from a Brooklyn apartment building.

The 30-year-old person of interest is being questioned following the attack on Ocean Avenue Wednesday morning.

The building has had multiple incidents of packages stolen from the lobby, and detectives are looking into whether the superintendent was attempting to remove his attacker from the building's lobby.

As the victim attempted to hold the man for police, the suspect repeatedly struck him in the head with a cellphone. Officers arrived and took the man into custody.

The victim went back into the building and at some point collapsed.

He was pronounced dead at Kings County Hospital with multiple head trauma injuries consistent with being struck in the head. The Medical Examiner will conduct an autopsy to determine his exact cause of death.

The man's scooter was taken by police as evidence. As many as three men were being sought in the ongoing pattern of thefts from the building lobby, with flyers posted warning residents.
