Kyle Sandilands sacked after explosive fallout as radio controversy grows, with contract dispute and on-air clash ending Australia’s top show.
Australian shock jock Kyle Sandilands has been fired from his ten-year, A$100m ($71m; £53m) breakfast radio contract, and his top-rated show—co-hosted with Jackie "O" Henderson—has also been cancelled.
Sandilands, 54, was suspended from KISS FM's 'Kyle & Jackie O Show' two weeks ago following an on-air argument with Henderson. ARN Media—the station's owner—accused him of gross misconduct and gave him 14 days to rectify the situation.
The radio duo has dominated commercial breakfast radio for decades; their outspoken and humorous style was hugely popular with audiences, and they consistently garnered strong ratings—particularly in Sydney.
On Wednesday, ARN stated that Sandilands' conduct constituted a breach of contract, while Sandilands hit back, declaring that he would challenge the decision in court.
It remains unclear how ARN's decision regarding Sandilands will impact Henderson's own ten-year, $100m contract, which was tied to hosting the station's flagship program. It was expected that the pair would remain on air together until at least 2034.

Shortly before ARN's announcement on Wednesday, Sandilands issued a statement saying: "I do not accept this."
"My lawyers informed them just last week that this decision would be invalid. And guess what? It is, in fact, invalid."
He added that the company "knew how I worked, they knew about the show, and they were willing to pay for it—because I delivered results for them." This entire matter stems from a heated seven-minute argument that took place on February 20, during which Sandilands accused Henderson of being "lost in a fantasy world, disconnected from reality" and failing to pull her weight at work.
Sandilands claimed that his co-host's growing preoccupation with astrology and horoscopes had negatively impacted her professional performance; however, when a tearful Henderson asked him to provide specific examples, Sandilands flatly refused to offer any.
Henderson, who had worked alongside Sandilands for nearly 27 years, subsequently took a leave of absence. During this period, ARN announced that Henderson had informed them she could "no longer work" with her on-air partner, following which the show was taken off the air.
A few days later, Henderson issued a statement asserting that she had "neither quit nor resigned." She further expressed her deep distress and utter shock upon learning of the show's cancellation. "At this time, I cannot comment any further, as I am addressing this matter through appropriate legal channels," she stated earlier this month.

On Wednesday, Sandilands remarked that his "on-air argument" with Henderson was "something we’ve done a hundred times over the past 25 years," but that the company had ultimately decided to "end it all."
Sandilands added that he had apologized to Henderson just hours after the heated exchange; however, in the days and weeks that followed, he was barred from contacting either Henderson or any member of the show's staff—a restriction that hindered his efforts to resolve the situation. He further stated that if Henderson did not wish to work with him, he had even proposed working with a different presenter; however, ARN had "no interest" in doing so.
"They felt they had found an opportunity to exit the contract they had signed with me a year earlier, and they seized that opportunity," Sandilands remarked.
After the show was abruptly taken off the air, local media reported that ARN staff members celebrated its cancellation, as other experienced employees had been laid off due to the expensive contracts held by the show's stars.
Insiders also cited the failed attempt to expand the Sydney-based program to Melbourne as a potential reason behind ARN's desire to cancel the show.
