Samir Zitouni, 48, also known as Sam, was working on a London North Eastern Railway (LNER) train travelling from Doncaster to London when the attack occurred in Cambridgeshire on Saturday, November 1.

LNER said Mr Zitouni, who has worked for the firm for more than 20 years, was credited with helping to save multiple lives.

A GoFundMe page for Mr Zitouni has raised nearly £40,000 towards its £50,000 target, one week after the attack.

A message posted on the GoFundMe page said: "Sam's family continue to be deeply grateful for all of your kind messages, generosity, and support.

"His wife has shared the wonderful news that Sam woke up briefly yesterday, and she was able to speak with him for a short time.

"This is a truly positive step forward, though there is still a long journey ahead in his recovery.

"Thank you all for continuing to keep Sam and his family in your thoughts and prayers. Your kindness means the world to them."

Mr. Zitouni worked as a Customer Experience Host, which primarily involved providing onboard catering.

The train driver requested an unannounced stop during the attack.

The attack is believed to have begun shortly after the train departed Peterborough station.

As the attack unfolded, passengers on the LNER service raised an emergency alarm.

Andrew Johnson, a train driver who served in the Royal Navy for 17 years, contacted a signaler and requested an unannounced stop at Huntingdon station.

British Transport Police reported that ten patients were taken to Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge by ambulance, and one patient walked into the hospital on their own.

On Tuesday, the police force said that one LNER employee was in a stable condition in hospital, but remained in critical condition.

Police Investigation

A man named Anthony Williams, 32, was remanded in custody on Monday at Peterborough Magistrates' Court on 10 counts of attempted murder in connection with the train accident.

Cambridgeshire Police previously said they were also investigating two reports of a knife attack on a 14-year-old boy in Peterborough city center and a man with a knife at a barber shop the day before the train attack.
