Tigres: Guido Pizarro reaches his first final as a coach
Argentine Guido Pizarro will have the opportunity to manage a final for the first time in his short career as a coach, after Tigres eliminated Cruz Azul in the semi-finals of the 2025 Apertura Tournament.
Pizarro is still in his early days as a tactician, having been in charge of the Felines in the previous Clausura 2025 tournament, overseeing five regular-season matches.
After sacking Veljko Paunovic, who left the team after the club failed to achieve its goals, the manager decided to end his playing career to take charge of the UANL team.
Pizarro's first match was on day eleven of the Clausura 2025, where Tigres faced Querétaro, whom they defeated 1-0. After that, they achieved good results and reached the Liguilla.
Tigres defeated Necaxa in the quarterfinals and reached the semifinals, where they faced Toluca, whom they ultimately lost. Toluca won the tournament. In the current Apertura 2025 tournament, Guido Pizarro performed well with the Felines, finishing second in the General Classification with 36 points after 10 wins, six draws, and just one loss in the regular season.
The UANL team eliminated Xolos in the quarterfinals by a 5-3 aggregate score. They will now face Celestes, whom they also eliminated, and Toluca for the title.
Guido Pizarro will play in his first final in Mexican football, and his opponent will be veteran Antonio Mohamed, who will now try to lead the Red Devils to back-to-back championships.
Pizarro, on his first final
Guido Pizarro said he was very happy to have the opportunity to manage his first Mexican football final. "I'm really happy, and more than just talking about myself, I'm proud of the team, of our people. I think we didn't set the goal of competing until the last day, but we achieved it. We know we missed the last step, which is the most important, what we all want, but I'm very proud of the players, very proud of the people."
He added, "This is my first tournament where we've reached the final, but I want to give the most credit to the people, the players, who set this goal from day one and worked hard for it."
Correa also
Argentina's Angel Correa will also play in his first final in Mexican football after strengthening the team for the current Mexican football tournament.
Correa is set to win the World Cup with the Argentina national team at Qatar 2022 and with Spanish team Atlético de Madrid.
From the start, the South American player stood out for Tigres for his contribution in attack, his quality as a player, scoring eight goals in the regular phase and helping the team defeat its opponents in the Liguilla, so now he will play his first final against Toluca.
