Trump Delivers on His Social Security Promise
Trump Delivers on His Social Security Promise
At the Social Security Administration, we meet Americans at critical junctures in their lives. Whether they are retiring, grieving the loss of a loved one, or applying for disability benefits, the nearly 75 million Americans who receive monthly payments know they can count on the SSA. Despite recent political attacks and a historic government shutdown, we remain committed to fulfilling President Donald Trump’s promise to protect and preserve Social Security for future generations.

As the current SSA Commissioner, I am leading a digital-first transformation of the agency to provide better and faster service to every American. In November, the average speed of answer on the national 800 number was nearly cut in half, and more calls were answered than during the previous year under former Commissioner Martin O’Malley. The average wait time for visitors to field offices, with or without appointments, has also decreased compared to the previous leadership. Under O’Malley, Americans couldn’t manage their benefits online 24/7 because the website was down for a full 29 hours every week. I quickly fixed this, and the SSA is on track to complete 800 million online transactions by the end of Fiscal Year 2026—a significant increase from O’Malley’s tenure.

Despite the tremendous progress made under President Trump’s leadership, O’Malley is determined to use his former position to scare Americans who rely on benefits, while simultaneously blaming the Trump administration at every turn. The failed Democratic presidential candidate and former Democratic National Committee chairman recently shared his views, spreading baseless partisan fear about an “agency plan” and misleading Americans about SSA customer service.

O’Malley was wrong before, and he is wrong now.
O'Malley was wrong earlier this year when he warned that the Trump administration would cause "disruptions in benefits." Not a single payment has ever been missed in the SSA's 90-year history.
O'Malley was wrong when he said that efficiency efforts would cause Social Security to "completely collapse." After fixing the mess he left behind, the SSA is able to serve more Americans at a faster pace.

O'Malley was wrong when he wrote that the SSA had jeopardized sensitive data. An investigation found no evidence that Americans' personal information was ever accessed, leaked, hacked, or shared.
O'Malley was wrong when he blamed the SSA for rising inflation for American seniors. The inflation crisis began under the previous administration's reckless Bidenflation, but President Trump's historic tax cuts will allow most seniors to keep more of their hard-earned Social Security benefits.

O'Malley was wrong when he misrepresented the disability backlog. The highest number of pending initial claims ever, 1.26 million, occurred during his tenure. Since then, we have managed to reduce pending claims by more than 25%.
O'Malley was wrong when he said the SSA had "taken away customer service and peace of mind from Americans." We are improving the customer service experience for Americans, and nearly 90% of customers who receive service through our national 800 number are satisfied with the service they receive.

O'Malley is wrong, and his intentions are clear.

While he urges everyone to put politics aside and "come together," anyone genuinely concerned about the well-being of the most vulnerable Americans would not use their former position to wage a fear-mongering campaign for political gain. Furthermore, making false statements about the dedicated federal employees who work under his "leadership" speaks volumes about his character. The civil servants who work to improve the lives of Americans deserve better than these outright lies. I have the honor of working alongside them every day to serve the public.

Trump vs. Democrats on the Inflation Crisis

For the 330 million Americans who rely on Social Security, my challenge is simple: read the facts, learn how we are improving the agency, and don't believe the clickbait. Social Security publishes monthly updates on its "Performance" page so people can see the improvements being made at the agency. For anyone with a Social Security number, I encourage you to create an online My Social Security account to manage your benefits personally.

As Commissioner of the Social Security Administration, I understand the importance of my work. The Trump administration is steadfast in its mission to protect and preserve Social Security for future generations. We undoubtedly face challenges, but we are making tremendous progress in bringing Social Security into the digital age, improving customer service, and restoring faith in the generational promise made 90 years ago.
