The Senate passed a bill on Monday evening that will fund the government until January. The bill will now be sent to the House of Representatives, and if passed in the House, it will be sent to President Donald Trump for his signature to become law, effectively ending the longest US government shutdown ever.
This comes after the Senate passed a procedural vote late Sunday night to advance the agreement, supported by 60 senators, while eight Democrats voted against party lines.
The shutdown prevented the release of key economic data, including last week's employment report and this week's scheduled inflation data. In the absence of official data, investors and officials have turned to limited private-sector indicators for guidance.
Ian Linzen, managing director and head of US rates strategy on the fixed income strategy team at BMO Capital Markets, said the risk-off stance contributed to a slight decline in Treasury yields, as stocks rose on expectations that the US government shutdown could end soon this week.
