Cokona, a member of the global hip-hop and R&B-inspired group XG, has revealed their identity as transmasculine and non-binary.

Cokona, 20, shared the news in a birthday Instagram post on the group's account. "Today, I turn 20. As I embark on this new chapter in my life, I want to share something that's been on my heart for a long time," Cokona said in a statement. "I am AFAB transmasculine non-binary. Earlier this year, I had top surgery." The statement continues: “I was born a woman and was considered a woman, but that label never reflected who I truly am. I live in a way that makes me feel more masculine and closer to my true self. The hardest thing for me so far was accepting and embracing myself. But as I slowly began to do so, I was able to open a new door. That moment changed the way I saw and understood the world, and it gave me the courage and strength to move forward. Now, I can finally say, ‘There’s nothing wrong with who I am inside.’”

For sound engineer Todd Maitland, mixing ‘Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere’ was the biggest challenge.

The rapper said that the other members of XG, the group’s producer and label CEO Simon Jacops, and his parents are the reason he’s “come this far.” Cocona also said in the statement that they are “grateful for every miracle that brought us together” and led them to the path they are on. The rapper concluded the statement by saying, “This message got a little long, but I just want to say thank you — for walking with me and supporting me all this way.” “I am very excited for the future we will continue to build together with XG and XGALX.”
The seven-person hip-hop and R&B-inspired group — consisting of Jurin, Chisa, Hinata, Harvey, Juria, Maya, and Cocona — debuted in 2022.
