Cleto Escobedo III: Cause of Death Update
Cleto Escobedo III, longtime bandleader of Jimmy Kimmel Live! and childhood friend of Jimmy Kimmel, has died at 59.
Cleto Escobedo III wasn't just the bandleader on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, but the saxophonist also became famous for working with big names like Paula Abdul and Marc Anthony.
He was also Jimmy Kimmel's childhood friend. As you can see from the emotional host below, who spent 22 minutes paying tribute to his late friend, they lived across the street from each other in Las Vegas.
And as Kimmel announced on Tuesday, Escobedo passed away at the age of 59.
"Early this morning, we lost a great friend, father, son, musician, and human being, my longtime bandleader, Cleto Escobedo III," Kimmel wrote on Instagram. "To say we're saddened would be an understatement. Cleto and I have been inseparable since we were nine years old. The fact that we work together every day is a dream we never imagined coming true. Taking care of our friends and praying for Cleto's wife, children, and parents."
Kimmel did not release an official cause of death. Page Six reports that he died from "complications related to a liver transplant."
