Flights to and from Edinburgh Airport were halted due to an air traffic control outage, resulting in passenger delays and cancellations.
Flights were halted for approximately two hours, resuming service at 10:40 am. Some passengers reported being stranded on planes on the runway.
Flights to and from the airport have since been subject to delays, diversions, and cancellations.
Edinburgh Airport stated that the problem was caused by an IT issue with its air traffic control provider and thanked passengers for their "patience and understanding."
Seven flights have been cancelled – to Paris, Bristol, Belfast, Amsterdam, Frankfurt, Luton, and Belfast City.
Eleven more planes were diverted from landing in Edinburgh, and 15 flights were delayed.
The airport stated that the situation is "fluid" and further problems may occur.
Passengers were advised to contact their airlines for the latest information on their flights.
Felicity, from Swindon, said she was "very sad" because the delay meant she would miss her youngest child's last nativity play.
She had flown to Edinburgh for a work meeting and said she had been waiting for an hour and a half because many people on the plane had missed their connecting flights.
Rory Boland, editor of Which? Travel, said the airline has a responsibility to ensure diverted passengers reach their destination and should bear the cost.
He said, "Contact the airline first, but if that's impossible, you can claim for onward travel."
However, he added that passengers are unlikely to receive any compensation for delays or cancellations caused by such technical difficulties.
Edinburgh Airport is one of the busiest airports in the UK, used by 15.8 million passengers last year.
