According to officials, a 26-year-old man has been arrested on charges of allegedly plotting a "violent attack" against a pro-Palestinian activist residing in New York.

In a statement posted on X, the activist, Nerdeen Kiswani, said that federal authorities had informed her on Thursday that "a plot against my life" was being hatched.

Officials stated that Alexander Heufler has been taken into custody in New Jersey and faces charges of illegally possessing and manufacturing destructive devices. According to court documents, agents recovered eight Molotov cocktails from his home in Hoboken, New Jersey.

The charging documents make no mention of the motive behind this planned attack.

Heufler, an American citizen, has been described by police as "an extremist" with no prior criminal record on file with the New York Police Department.
Police believe he was acting alone, rather than in concert with any foreign terrorist group or foreign government.

In a statement, New York Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch said, "This NYPD investigation has uncovered an alleged plot by Alexander Heufler to carry out a violent attack against Nerdeen Kiswani."

This alleged plot began early last month when, according to officials, Heufler participated in a video call on February 10 with a "self-defense" group that included an undercover law enforcement officer.

According to court records, during the call, Heufler allegedly asked if anyone in the group had a location where he could throw "Molotovs," and he subsequently discussed plans to vandalize Kiswani's home. After arranging a face-to-face meeting with the undercover agent, he allegedly stated that he had located Kiswani's address; on March 4, the two reportedly conducted a reconnaissance of the home together.

Heffler allegedly remarked that constructing a Molotov cocktail was not difficult, and also revealed that he had devised a plan to flee the country.

On March 26, Heffler met with the agent near Kiswani's home, in accordance with the plan.

The charging documents state that he was in possession of a large bottle of alcohol, along with other materials used to construct several Molotov cocktails—items he allegedly intended to throw at cars and directly at Kiswani's home.

Following this meeting, law enforcement officers executed a search warrant at Heffler's residence, where they recovered eight Molotov cocktails, as detailed in court documents. An NYPD spokesperson that Kiswani—the co-founder of "Within Our Lifetime," a pro-Palestinian organization based in New York City—was notified of the threat to her life following Heffler's arrest.

New York Council Member Zohran Mamdani stated that Heffler was allegedly a member of the Jewish Defense League, an organization designated by the FBI as a known violent extremist group.

Mamdani asserted that Heffler "attempted to bomb Nerdeen Kiswani's home in a chilling act of political violence and a clear conspiracy to commit murder."

Kiswani has been a vocal critic of Israel's occupation of Palestinian territories and has alleged that far-right groups have waged a "sustained campaign of stalking, harassment, intimidation, and civil rights violations" against her and other activists.
