According to the police, "several" pedestrians were struck by a car in the heart of Derby city on Saturday evening, following which one individual has been arrested.
"Several" people were injured in this incident, some of whom sustained serious injuries; they received immediate first aid from paramedics at the scene before being transported to the hospital.
Derbyshire Constabulary states that the incident occurred in the Friar Gate area at approximately 9:30 PM (21:30) and involved a black Suzuki Swift.
The police are appealing to anyone living in Derby who possesses any information regarding this incident to contact them immediately; however, the police have also clarified that they do not believe there is any further threat to the general public at this time.
In a statement, Derbyshire Constabulary noted that shortly after the incident, police officers intercepted the vehicle suspected of being involved. The driver of the vehicle—a man in his 30s—has been arrested and taken into police custody.

He stepped outside because "someone mentioned that a car had struck several people."
The individual added: "Everyone was talking about the incident and was shaken up. We also know people who were at another bar nearby at the time, and we were worried that they might have fallen victim to this incident."
"It is truly tragic; everyone has been deeply shaken by this event. People are weeping; I simply cannot believe that something like this has happened."
