After serving nearly three years of a six-and-a-half-year sentence for her role in a nationwide fraud scheme, Shah walked free early Wednesday morning. PEOPLE magazine confirmed the release. Reality TV personality Jen Shah is beginning a new chapter today. The 52-year-old was released from the Federal Prison Camp in Bryan, Texas, early Wednesday, December 10th, after spending 2 years, 9 months, and 23 days behind bars.

Shah had been serving time for her role in a long-running telemarketing fraud scheme that targeted thousands of people across the United States — including many elderly victims.

Shah and her assistant, Stuart Smith, were arrested in March 2021 and charged with conspiracy to commit wire fraud and conspiracy to commit money laundering. Shah later pleaded guilty in July 2022 to the wire fraud charge.

At her 2023 sentencing, Shah apologized in court, saying, “My actions have hurt innocent people. I am doing all I can to earn the funds to pay restitution.”
She was ordered to pay $6.5 million to victims.
Originally sentenced to six-and-a-half years, Shah’s time was reduced multiple times over the past two years. According to the Federal Bureau of Prisons, reductions were granted due to good behavior, participation in prison programs, and restitution payments.

Her projected release date was moved several times — from 2026 to 2025, then again to 2026 — before ultimately being finalized for December 10th, 2025.

Where Shah went immediately after her release remains a mystery. According to federal policy, she could have been released directly home or transferred to a halfway house to serve the remainder of her sentence under supervision. Officials say that information is being withheld for privacy and security reasons.

Her manager, Chris Giovanni, tells PEOPLE that Shah is grateful and emotional, especially knowing she’ll be home for the holidays, calling it “a gift she doesn’t take for granted.”

Giovanni added that Shah is in a “positive, hopeful” mindset and has undergone significant personal growth during her incarceration. He says Shah is focused on rebuilding her life, repairing relationships, and staying grounded.

Throughout her sentence, Shah’s husband, University of Utah football coach Sharrieff “Coach” Shah, remained by her side. The couple shares two sons, Sharrieff Jr. and Omar.

In a letter written from prison last year, Shah described the “unrelenting” pain of being separated from her family but said faith, prayer, therapy, and the support of other inmates helped her find humility and strength.

For now, Jen Shah is back on the outside — looking to rebuild, reconnect, and move past a years-long legal saga that stunned fans and the reality TV world. Whether she returns to television remains to be seen.
