Obama said, "As we saw in the last election, unfortunately, we're not ready yet. That's why I'm saying, don't even look at me about running, because you're all lying. You're not ready for a woman. Absolutely not."

The former First Lady and wife of President Barack Obama made this statement during a conversation with Tracee Ellis Ross while promoting her new book, "The Look," at the Brooklyn Academy of Music on November 14.

She continued, "So don't waste my time. We still have a lot to learn, and unfortunately, there are still a lot of men who think a woman can't lead them, and we've seen that. I think we still have more to learn in that regard."

When Obama was president, she was often more popular than her husband, but she has often stated that she won't run for president. In 2024, as Democrats consider replacing President Joe Biden, a poll suggests that only Obama could defeat President Donald Trump.

But two of the last three Democratic presidential nominees have been women—Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Vice President Kamala Harris. Both lost to Trump.
