Middlesbrough are showing interest in Hammarby IF head coach Kim Helberg - making his move to Swansea City doubtful.

Helberg was in discussions with Swansea's top coaches in London last weekend.

But Boro are now actively pursuing the 37-year-old, who is one of Scandinavia's most respected young coaches.

After sacking head coach Alan Sheehan last week, Swansea made Helberg their first target.

They are one of four Championship clubs looking for a new head coach, including Norwich, Southampton, and Boro, who lost Rob Edwards to Wolves last week.

Hammarby allowed Hellberg to travel to the UK to negotiate with clubs, but also offered him a new contract in the hope he would stay.

Norwich also held brief talks with Hellberg. He still has one year remaining on his contract with the Swedish club.

Adi Vivesh is currently in interim charge and is preparing Middlesbrough for Saturday's Championship match against Oxford.

Who is Kim Hellberg?
Analysis by Lyle Thomas of Sky Sports News:

"Kim Hellberg is one of Sweden's most respected young coaches, having impressed clubs, including in England, for some time. Swansea spoke with the 37-year-old before appointing Alan Sheehan.

"He led Hammarby to second place in the Swedish top flight in the 2025 campaign. Hammarby wanted to keep him and had planned to extend his contract, which expires at the end of next season.

"He is known for bringing in and developing several young players at Hammarby, some of whom the club has sold to earn money.

"His team is also known for its exciting and aggressive play. They scored the most goals (60) in Allsvenskan last season and had the highest expected goals (xGF) in the division with 1.97 per game.

"They will play Champions League qualifiers next season, but likely without Hellberg."
