US President Donald Trump, in a lengthy interview about his health, revealed that he takes more aspirin than doctors recommend, uses makeup to hide bruises on his hands, and doesn't exercise regularly because he finds it "boring."

Trump also told The Wall Street Journal that he had a CT scan in October, despite previously falsely telling reporters that he had a more detailed MRI scan.

Trump, 79, is the oldest president in US history and is showing signs of aging. He has been seen falling asleep in meetings and unable to hear questions.

The Journal reported that Trump "expressed displeasure with the public debate about his health," which he described as "perfect."

When the newspaper was preparing to publish a story about Trump's health, he began an "unexpected phone call" by saying, "Let's talk about health again for the 25th time."

Trump said he has been taking higher doses of aspirin than recommended for the past 25 years, adding that it causes him to bruise easily.

Trump said, "They say aspirin is good for thinning the blood, and I don't want thick blood flowing to my heart."

He takes 325 mg of aspirin daily, while doctors sometimes recommend a dose of 81 mg.

Trump said, "They would like me to take a lower dose."

But he doesn't want to change his habits after so many years. He said, "I'm a little superstitious."

The president also talked about a medical scan he had at Walter Reed National Medical Center, which he previously described as an MRI scan.

Trump told the Journal, "That wasn't an MRI. It was less than that. It was a scan."

One of Trump's doctors, Navy Captain Sean Barbella, said in a statement to the Journal that Trump underwent a CT scan "to definitively rule out any cardiovascular problems," and the testing revealed no abnormalities.

After Trump was diagnosed with chronic venous insufficiency, a common condition in older people, he was advised to wear compression socks, but he refused.

Trump said, "I didn't like them," adding that he now gets up from his desk more regularly, which has improved the swelling in his legs. Nevertheless, the president said he doesn't enjoy any kind of regular exercise, except for playing golf.

"I don't like it. It's boring," Trump said. "Walking or running on a treadmill for hours like some people do, that's not for me."

The president said he never fell asleep during public meetings, adding that he sometimes closes his eyes because he finds it "comfortable." Regarding the bruises on his hands seen in some photographs, Trump said he now carries makeup to cover them up if he gets "bruised."

He said, "I have makeup, which is easy to apply; it takes about 10 seconds."

Trump said he has no hearing problems, and when photographers took pictures of him when he appeared to be asleep, he said, "Sometimes they take pictures of me blinking."

"And they catch me blinking."

Barbabella said in a statement to the Journal that Trump "is in excellent health and fully fit to perform his duties as Commander in Chief."
