Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Saturday that Russia's intense overnight attack on Kyiv showed that Moscow "does not want peace," as he prepared for a new round of peace talks.

Zelensky made the remarks while en route to Florida, where he will meet with US President Donald Trump on Sunday and discuss a 20-point peace plan agreed upon by American and Ukrainian envoys.

Local officials said two people were killed and 32 injured in the 10-hour missile and drone attack on the Ukrainian capital.

According to Ukraine's Development Minister Oleksiy Kuleba, damage to energy infrastructure caused heating to be cut off to 40% of residential buildings in Kyiv and surrounding districts.

Russia's Defense Ministry said it used long-range precision weapons to target energy facilities, which it claimed were being used "in the interests of the Ukrainian armed forces and enterprises of the Ukrainian military-industrial complex."

Writing on Telegram, Zelensky said Russia launched approximately 500 drones and 40 missiles toward Kyiv, targeting energy and civilian infrastructure.

Images showed large holes in apartment buildings and fires burning in homes after the attacks.

Anastasia Grybanova's apartment block was hit, causing fires in some apartments on the upper floors of the high-rise building. Grybanova, who was in the building's elevator at the time, escaped unharmed.

Ukraine's State Emergency Service said 68 people were evacuated from a retirement home in the eastern Darnitsky district.

"Russian representatives are conducting lengthy negotiations, but in reality, Dagger [missiles] and Shahed [drones] are speaking for them," Zelensky wrote on Telegram, adding that Russian President Vladimir Putin does not want to end the war. He wrote, "This vile act can only be answered with very strong measures. The United States has this opportunity, Europe has this opportunity, many of our partners have this opportunity," urging allies to demonstrate strength against Russian aggression.

Following the attack, Poland, which shares a 530-kilometer (320-mile) border with western Ukraine, put its fighter jets, ground-based air defense systems, and radar reconnaissance on alert.

Later Saturday morning, it was concluded that there had been no violation of the country's airspace. Russia's Defense Ministry said its air defense systems had intercepted and destroyed nearly 200 Ukrainian drones over several Russian regions, including eight over Moscow.
