While arriving at the scene of the accident, he collided with a police car
A police patrol car arriving at an accident on the Upper Hutt Motorway was involved in a second collision this evening.
Emergency services were called to the scene at approximately 5:50 p.m. after a two-vehicle collision on State Highway 2 River Road, between Ferguson Drive and Totara Park Road in Clouston Park.
"Fortunately, there have been only moderate injuries reported," police said.
"While travelling under urgent duty driving to the crash, a police unit was also involved in a three-vehicle crash on River Rd near Gibbons St.
"There have been no serious injuries, however a scene examination will be carried out, necessitating road closures."
Diversions have been put in place.
Motorists have been advised to avoid the area if possible, and delays are expected.
