In a statement released today, President Trump emphasized the importance of U.S. trade deals, saying America has acted swiftly to reduce tariffs in line with negotiated agreements — and expects its trading partners to do the same.
According to the President, a trade agreement reached with South Korea on July 30, 2025, and reaffirmed during his visit to Korea on October 29, 2025, has not yet been approved by South Korea’s legislature.

Citing the delay, President Trump announced an immediate increase in reciprocal tariffs on South Korean goods — raising rates from 15 percent to 25 percent. The higher tariffs apply to autos, lumber, pharmaceuticals, and additional imported products.
The President described the agreement as “historic” and stressed that while legislative approval is South Korea’s prerogative, the United States would not wait indefinitely for action.
